ELLEN HEMPHILL-Cardea Communications Mentor and Consultant
Ellen Hemphill, founder of Cardea Inc. has been a voice and theater specialist for 35 years. She has a Master’s Degree in Psychology, and is a teacher, performer and theater and film director. Ellen teaches Business Communications through Theater, as well as Voice and Speech, Voice and Gesture, and other theater related courses at Duke University, where she is an Associate Professor and has been on the faculty of the Theater Studies Department for 24 years.
As a theater artist, Ellen is also Artistic and Managing Director of Archipelago Theatre/CINE Company in Chapel Hill, NC. She has written and directed over 20 productions for Archipelago, and also directs for Duke’s Theater Studies Department. Ellen was on the faculty for the American Dance Festival for 20 years and is a longtime member of the Roy Hart Theatre of France, where she lived and worked for 13 years.
Ellen focuses her consulting work on the specific needs of the client- group and individual, and takes into consideration the cultural differences and speech issues in the international community and corporate setting. From her international work in psychology, mythology and theater, she is passionate about bringing into focus the needs of the individual in life transitions and how the physical, the emotional and the inner worlds align to bring balance in the daily and work environment.
Ellen has taught throughout the U.S., in France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Japan, and Mexico. She is fluent in French.
